Start of term update January 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope that you all had an enjoyable break, despite the current circumstances. Happy New Year to you all!

As you will have no doubt seen, there has been some new information announced by the government and I would just like to take this opportunity to explain this in a little more detail.

Returning arrangements

From Monday  4th – 8th January, only children of key workers and vulnerable students will be on site. You have been sent a link to inform us if your child requires a place in school this week and meets the criteria.

Year 11 and Year 13 students will now not return to face to face teaching until the week beginning 11th January. Until their return, these students will receive remote learning, including some live lessons where appropriate, to support them. For any students who have external examinations, these arrangements have already been  communicated and remain unchanged. All other students will return on Monday 18th January. From today (4th January) all students will access remote learning via google classroom, and this may include some live lessons.  We thank you for your cooperation in ensuring that your son/daughter takes their studies seriously and engages with their learning.

Covid-19 Testing

The plan is that all students who have parental consent (up to age 15) or consent themselves via their parents (age 16 and over) are tested twice early in the term, so that we can prevent the virus taking hold at the Academy. This process is referred to as mass testing and we plan to undertake this process when arrangements have been made in the coming week. Further information will be communicated to you about how this will operate and appropriate timescales shortly.

As you can appreciate, the situation is changing very rapidly. We remain, as always, committed to ensuring the very best education for our youngsters, supporting their well-being and keeping the safety of staff and students paramount in our working.

Yours sincerely

Annabel Stoddart
