Ange Grandfield MBE 1948 – 2021

Ange Grandfield MBE 1948 - 2021

We are saddened to share the news that Ange Grandfield passed away last week after a long and strong
battle against cancer. Many of you in our community will remember Ange with fondness and have had your
lives touched by her during her fifty years of service at Shire Oak.

Ange started teaching at Shire Oak Grammar School in September 1969 as a PE teacher. She established
herself as central to the school and was promoted to Head of PE. Ange organised many sport events across
Walsall and was a leading light for our Sports Day for many years. Shire Oak became a community school and
Ange became a Head of Year and later our Pastoral Leader. Many, many students will have been positively
impacted by Ange and have wonderful memories of her. Ange’s substantial services to education were
recognised in June 2010 when she was awarded an MBE. After retiring as a teacher in 2009, Ange continued
to work at Shire Oak Academy as our Health and Safety Officer. In total Ange worked at Shire Oak for fifty
years, a truly awesome achievement.

In addition to her dedicated service to Shire Oak, Ange has also served as Governor at several Walsall
schools and as a Trustee on the John Taylor MAT Board.
I know many of you will have great memories of Ange. We will shortly be opening an online book of
condolence to reflect the esteem within which Ange was held throughout and beyond our community. This can
